At Toronto Swim School, we offer two practical and comprehensive courses—Emergency First Aid and Standard First Aid—delivered under the guidelines of the Lifesaving Society. These programs are ideal not only for aquatic candidates but also for the general public, including camp staff, playground supervisors, maintenance workers, parents, and anyone seeking life-saving skills.

Emergency First Aid (with CPR-B)
This course is designed for individuals who want a general understanding of basic first aid principles and emergency response skills.
Key skills taught:
• Victim assessment and emergency response
• Adult CPR (Level B)
• Responding to choking emergencies
• Controlling external bleeding
• Recognizing and responding to heart attacks, strokes, wounds, and burns
Prerequisite: None
Certification validity: 36 months from the date of issue
Instruction & certification: Delivered and certified by a qualified Emergency First Aid or First Aid Instructor
Recognition: Lifesaving Society certification card
Required materials:
• Canadian First Aid Manual or Canadian Lifesaving Manual
(Some affiliates provide materials; others may require you to purchase your own. Please confirm before buying.)
Important note: This course is suitable for all types of workplaces and individuals, and may be used by organizations to train non-aquatic staff.
Recertification: The recertification course is identical to the original course.

Standard First Aid (with CPR-C)
This is an advanced and comprehensive course for those seeking a deeper understanding of first aid. It includes all Emergency First Aid content plus additional skills for handling more complex situations.
What you’ll learn:
• Everything in the Emergency First Aid course
• Full CPR for infants, children, and adults (Level C)
• Managing spinal injuries
• Heat and cold-related emergencies
• Bone and joint injuries, chest trauma
• Medical emergencies (diabetic shock, seizures, poisoning, etc.)
• Legal considerations when providing first aid
Prerequisite: None
Certification validity: 36 months from the date of issue
Instruction: Taught by certified First Aid Instructors
Certification: Only issued by certified Lifesaving Society First Aid Examiners
Recognition: Official Lifesaving Society certification card
Required materials:
• Canadian First Aid Manual or Canadian Lifesaving Manual
(Please confirm if materials are provided or if you need to purchase them separately.)
Recertification:
• Current Standard First Aid (SFA) holders may recertify only once with an official Lifesaving Society SFA Recertification Course, within 3 years of the original certification date.
• After that, a full course must be taken again.
• Note: If your certification is from a different agency, you must recertify with that same agency; you cannot transfer to a Lifesaving Society recertification.
