Standard First Aid (with CPR-C Certification)

Toronto Swim School offers Standard First Aid (SFA) – a nationally recognized, in-depth first aid training program by the Lifesaving Society. This course includes everything taught in Emergency First Aid and expands on essential life-saving skills, making it ideal for those who need a deeper understanding of first aid – whether for work, school, or personal preparedness.

This course is not limited to aquatic candidates. It is perfect for camp leaders, daycare workers, construction crews, fitness professionals, and the general public. You’ll learn how to recognize and manage medical emergencies in any setting – from playgrounds to professional environments.

Course Content Includes
• Two-rescuer CPR for adult, child, and infant
• Managing spinal injuries (on land)
• Heat- and cold-related emergencies: heat cramps, exhaustion, stroke, hypothermia, frostbite
• Bone and joint injuries, head injuries, and chest injuries
• Handling seizures, diabetic emergencies, and poisoning
• Legal implications of providing first aid
• Managing stress in emergency situations

• Prerequisite: None
• Duration: Typically 16 hours over 2 days
• Certification: CPR-C and Standard First Aid (valid for 3 years)
• Taught by: Certified First Aid Instructors
• Certified by: Lifesaving Society First Aid Examiners
• Recognition: Official Certification Card
• Required Material: Canadian First Aid Manual or Canadian Lifesaving Manual (Check if material is included or needs to be purchased separately)

Recertification Option

If you currently hold a valid Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid certificate, you can recertify once (within 3 years of your original course date) through a one-day recertification course. After that, a full course is required.
Note: Certificates from other organizations (like Red Cross, St. John Ambulance) cannot be recertified through this course – they must be renewed through the original certifying agency.
